worse than you thought...but there is hope

Remember my rant about corn syrup? Maybe I was giving the environmental movement too much credit. It would seem the Corn Refiners Association was not reacting to the hordes of greenies turning up their noses, but pre-empting some bad news. It seems High Fructose Corn syrup often contains mercury. Mmmmmm delicious natural mercury.

The Bright side? Apparently our new pres is a fan of Pollan

cause for optimism?

Sheesh...it's no wonder they've started those lovely 'Corn Syrup is natural' commercials. Doggone their hides. Isn't there a single honest company to be had out there?

Mercury in corn syrup
Melamine in milk and formula
What's next??? Let me guess...cyanide in our Cheerios.

EEeuuww!! Why am I not surprised? I should have known that there was an ulterior motive behind those commercials rather than the obvious.

Shocked. Horrified. And yet not surprised.

I will never again consume any food with HFCS. Seriously.

The study that article talks about describes the foods tested as having 350 or fewer parts per trillion of mercury (also, I think it said about a third of products tested, which isn't really "often."). The established acceptable limit for drinking water is 2 parts per billion, and for seafood is 1 part per million, which is way higher than the levels they found.
